Renowned eye specialist Rabiul Husain, the founding managing trustee of Chittagong Eye Infirmary and Training Centre, has been elected the chairman of International Agency for Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) in South East Asian region.
He was elected chairman for the next four years for the second consecutive term at the world convention of the organisation held in Argentina on August 23, 2008.
IAPB is continuing blindness prevention and protection activities across the globe under seven zones.
Alongside fighting blindness, IAPB also continued activities against hunger, poverty, unemployment, ignorance, superstitions and other diseases for betterment of around one forth of the world's population in its southeast zone that comprises eleven countries, said a press release.
